Dr. Carol Warfield Memo on Proposed 2.2 GPA

December 6, 2001

Proposed Curriculum Model Changes that have not been approved by Curriculum Committee as of 10/5/02

COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE

Agronomy & Soils  Production Track, Business Track, Turfgrass Track, Science Track

* AGRN 3040 (Basic Soils) is listed as a required course.  We are dropping AGRN 3040, and would like to require AGRN 2040 (Basic Soils) as a replacement.

Animal Sciences – Pre-Vet – Pre-Professional Option

* Given the new track in Muscle Foods (ANMF), college would like to remove ANSC-3700 Muscle Foods as a requirement in our ANPV option.  College proposes replace ANSC 3700 with a 4 hour directed elective (upper-level life science course with lab) in the Junior year then add ANSC 3700 to the list of recommended directed electives.  The other Directed Elective in the Senior year should be 2-4 credit hours depending on the course selected, so the balance of Free Electives should be 10-12 credit hours.
Animal Sciences – Production Management Option

* Given the new track in Muscle Foods (ANMF), college would like to remove ANSC-3700 Muscle Foods as a requirement in our ANSC option.  College proposes to move ECON 2020 to the Junior year and replace ANSC 3700 with a 4 hour directed elective (upper-level life science course with lab) in the Senior year then add ANSC 3700 to the list of recommended directed electives.  The other Directed Elective in the Senior year should be 2-4 credit hours depending on the course selected, so the balance of Free Electives should be 5-7 credit hours.
Horticulture (all three tracks)

Modify all three tracks (models) to reflect a reduction of one credit in elective hours to accommodate increase in credit of PLPA 3000 from 3 to 4 hours.  Curriculum model for Fruit and Vegetable Production track also reflects replacement of AGRN 3040 with AGRN 2040 to accommodate deletion of AGRN 2040 by the Department of Agronomy and Soils.  Old and new curriculum of one credit in elective hours to accommodate increase in credit of PLPA 3000 from 3 to 4 credit hours.

COLLEGE OF BUSINESS

Marketing

* Change MNGT 3140 to 2 credits.  Add MNGT (2 credits)

COLLEGE OF HUMAN SCIENCES

Hotel and Restaurant Management

* Rearrange courses in the model.   This change only effects the department.  This will help resolve some class scheduling issues.
Nutrition and Food Science (Nutrition/Dietetic Option and Food Science Option)

* Rearrange courses in the model.   This change only effects the department.  This will help resolve some class scheduling issues.

COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS

Communication

* Move two courses (COMM 3450 and COMM 3700) to a different section of the curriculum sheet.  After this move, the number of courses offered in that section of the curriculum sheet will increase from three to five.  The move will give our majors a greater selection in courses they can take to complete their studies.

Public Administration

* Add POLI 1030 and 1040 to PUBA Ethics classes.
* POLI 4970-006 (Special Topics in Public Policy) is added to Group 2 courses (Govt & Adm)
* POLI 3030 (African-American Political Thought) is added to the Group 3 courses (Cultural Diversity)
* POLI 3300 (Law and Society) is added to the Group 5 courses (Public Law)

Public Relations

* Moving JRNL 4460: Press Law and Ethics from a choice among REQUIRED courses to a choice among MAJOR ELECTIVES.
