Classifications of Program Requests

This is a list of the various types of program-related requests that require off-campus approval. While it is not exhaustive, it provides a good representation of what requires approval beyond that of the University Curriculum Committee (UCC) and Graduate Council Curriculum Committee (GCCC). This list is based upon the Alabama Commission on Higher Education’s (ACHE) Categories of Instructional Items.

All requests should be initiated via a Memorandum of Request from the Dean of the academic unit addressed to the Provost  (SAMPLE). Once this Memorandum has received an affirmative response, the unit can begin the review and approval process for their request in the CIM system via /programadmin.

All submissions should provide the documentation listed for each item included as an attachment on the CIM program request. Any document requiring signatures should be included in scanned .pdf format with all unit-level signatures included; and original hard copies of the same should be submitted to the Coordinator for Curriculum Management. Requests that lack the proper documentation will be returned to the academic unit prior to curriculum committee review – greatly increasing the likelihood of a delay in the approval process.

Each item heading contains sample documentation and / or the appropriate templates for the required documentation. Please note that samples of documents for each classification have been pulled from different programs.

If your unit has a program-related request that you do not see listed below, that you think may require off-campus approval, please contact the Coordinator for Curriculum Management.
